Prisoners in Şakran are forced to end the hunger strike

As hunger strikes in Turkish prisons continue, Şakran Prison administration announced that they will force a medical intervention on the prisoners who are on the 61st day of their strike.

The hunger strike started by 13 prisoners in Şakran Campus Prison continues on day 61. 278 prisoners in 29 prisons have joined the hunger strikes since February 15.

The prisoners in Şakran Prison section T2 had family visits today and told their families that the prison administration threatened them with “forced” medical intervention unless the hunger strike isn’t ended. The prisoners said they will never accept this approach and added the following:

“The prison administration said we were entering a dangerous phase and that we must come to the infirmary and end the hunger strike. We told the administration that we will never accept such an approach. We won’t accept the prison administration’s approach and we will resist this arbitrary practice. The prison administration, the Justice Ministry and the silent public are responsible for the negative outcomes here. We don’t accept any medical intervention implemented without our consent. The public should be conscious about this issue.”
