Prisoners who were on hunger strike in Van not medically treated

The families of prisoners who were on death fast in Van Prison denounced that they are not being properly treated.

The 17 prisoners on death fast were taken to Van Regional Training and Research Hospital after they ended their action on Sunday 26 May. From there they were transferred to another medical facility but because of the bad conditions there they refused to be treated and were taken back to prison.

Six days have passed since the prisoners ended their hunger strike and still haven’t received proper treatment, denounced the families.

Relatives who visited the prisoners said that they were concerned about their health and called on civil society organizations to take action as soon as possible. “We didn't accept treatment because the hospital conditions were not hygienic”, told prisoners to their families.

The families underlined that prisoners are in need of treatment and monitoring because they have been on hunger strike for many weeks.
