October report: 177 workplace murders in Turkey

The Worker Health and Work Safety Assembly announced that at least 177 workers lost their lives in October.

The Worker Health and Work Safety Assembly (ISIG) announced their workplace murders report for the month of October which stated that at least 177 workers lost their lives during the month, with a total of at least 1.640 workers losing their lives in the first 10 months of the year.

The report said, “Our report has zero workplace murders caused by occupational illnesses. But ILO and WHO data shows that there are 6 ‘occupational illness related deaths’ for every ‘workplace accident related death’.”

The report declared that at least 144 workers lost their lives in January, 128 in February, 130 in March, 189 in April, 169 in May, 151 in June, 2012 in July, 184 in August and 167 in September.

The ISIG report also said the most frequent causes for the deaths have been traffic or shuttle bus accidents, being crushed, collapsing structures, falling and heart attacks.
