Norwegian MP visits hunger strikers for Öcalan in Oslo

Norwegian MP Freddy Andre Øvstegård visited the hunger strike held in Oslo to protest the aggravated isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

MP Freddy Andre Øvstegård from Norway’s Socialist Party visited the Kurds on a hunger strike in the tent they set up in front of the Norwegian Parliament in Oslo.

Øvstegård gave a speech and said his party is monitoring the Kurds’ situation closely, and knows that they have been waging a very difficult struggle for a long time.

“Erdogan and his government systemically commit human rights violations, arrest HDP members, constantly provoke Kurdish cities and attack the gains Kurd made in Syria,” said Øvstegård and added that Erdogan is resorting to antidemocratic practices for more power.

Øvstegård said Norway has a responsibility in Turkey’s practices as the two countries are NATO allies and added that they expect Norwegian Foreign Minister Ine arie Eriksen Søreide to immediately halt weapons sales to Turkey.

Øvstegård said the Socialist Party is going to submit inquiries to the minister on the matter.

Hunger strikers chanted slogans and danced the Kurdish traditional dance halay together with the visitors. On the last day of the protest, the hunger strikers will hold meetings with various political parties.
