Nicolas Maduro reelected with 67.7% of the votes

Nicolas Maduro has been reelected president of Venezuela on Sunday with 67,7% of the valid votes.

The president of the National Election Committee, Tibisay Lucena, has read out the results of the presidential elections at 10pm Venezuelan time (3am London time).

According to the results Maduro has received 5.823.728 votes, of the almost 8.700.000  people who voted.

It has to be noted that the participation rate has been of between 46,01% and 48% (the results were given with 92.6% of the votes counted). Twenty million people had the write to vote.

Second was the opposition candidate Falcon (with 1.820.552 votes) and third the evangelist Bertucci (925.042 votes).

President Maduro said after the results were given that the "Venezuelan people have sent a message to the whole world: the president of Venezuela is elected in Venezuela".

Monday will be the day of the comments and recrimination, given that the opposition candidate Falcon has already said he did not recognise this vote.
