Netanyahu's proposal to annex the Jordan Valley a blow to peace

Israeli PM Netanyahu's proposal to annex the Jordan Valley to Israel caused unanimous rejection unanimous among the Arab countries.

The proposal to extend Israel's sovereignty unilaterally to the Jordan Valley was launched
by the current Premier Benjamin Netanyahu just six days before the general elections in Israel.

The declaration was also made on the eve of the announcement of the so-called Agreement
of the Century for Palestine promised by US President Donald Trump.

Netanyahu's intentions immediately provoked the unanimous rejection of the Arab world. The Arab League meeting in Cairo considered it as a “violation of the international law". The strong diplomatic rejection reached unanimity among Arab governments, including those from Egypt and Jordan, which maintain diplomatic relations with Israel, and Arabia Saudi and Bahrain, which have maintained a policy of approximation and relations for years with Israel.

The claim by Netanyahu, which would make a State of Palestine unfeasible, affects the Jordan Valley, in the West Bank, a territory of about 2,400 square kilometers populated by 65,000 Palestinians and 11,000 illegal Israeli settlers, and in the words of the Palestinian deputy to the Israelite Congress, Hanan Ashani, "ruins all hopes of peace"
