NAV-DEM calls on Kurds to rally against German new repression law

The rally will be held in Dusseldorf to protest against new powers to be conferred to the police.

Germany Democratic Kurdish Society Center NAV-DEM co-chairs said in a written statement that some 100 associations will come together in Dusseldorf to rally against the new legislation to be implemented by Germany which will confer further powers to the police.

The demonstration is also an opportunity for NAV-DEM to draw attention to the latest repression carried out by the German police on Kurdish associations and politicians.

NAV-DEM stressed that Germany in fact has been acting on a request by the Turkish state. “Democratic Kurdish organisations, activists, migrant organisations, Turkish revolutionary institutions, individuals and German progressive, anti-fascist people, have been attacked in Germany especially after the G20 protests.”

For NAV-DEM this is “a comprehensive attack on our fundamental rights and freedoms that has been developing through prosecution, information gathering, detentions.”

NAV-DEM reminded that many social and cultural institutions are forbidden in Germany and today the repression is further deepened by the addition of paragraph (b) to Article 129 of the criminal code, which define members of an international terrorist organization abroad.

Police will have more authority and control as it would be able to act without a court decision.

“This is the way leading Germany down the road of being a police state”, said NAV-DEM and added: “According to the planned legislation, the police will not only intervene early, but will also be able to use DNA traces to determine the colour of hair, eyes, skin, and the sex as part of the investigation. The police will also be given the authority to use hand bombs and some other explosives."

NAV-DEM said that “this law will make all our lives difficult in every area of life, school, work place and street. We call on everyone to raise their voice against the AKP fascist government and the German Great Coalition government that is strengthening relations with the AKP.”

The Kurdish organisation called on everyone to join the demonstration to be held in Dusseldorf on 7 July.
