Municipality of Nuremberg visited Kurdish hunger striker

Şiyar Xelîl is carrying out his protest at the Medya People's House and was visited by Nuremberg Municipality Human Rights Bureau director Martina Mittenhuber.

Şiyar Xelîl is on the 54th day of his indefinite hunger strike in the city of Nuremberg.

He has joined the resistance led by HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven demanding the end of isolation against Abdullah Öcalan.

Şiyar Xelîl is carrying out his protest at the Medya People's House and was visited by Nuremberg Municipality Human Rights Bureau director Martina Mittenhuber.

Mittenhuber was first informed about the health condition of Xelîl, and then chatted with the Kurdish activist for a while.

Xelîl, who is determined to continue his action despite the worsening of his health condition, told Mittenhuber that he has gone on hunger strike to demand the end of the isolation imposed on Kurdish people’s leader Öcalan.

Drawing attention to the role of Öcalan in the peace and democratization process, Xelî said: “With our ongoing hunger strike in many cities of Europe, we want to ensure that European politicians and civil society organizations put pressure on the Turkish state to stop the war against Kurds.”.

Kurdish and German activists visited Xelîl

Martina Mittenhuber was met by the members of the Nuremberg-Kurdistan Peace Union. The Kurdish and German activists thanked Mittenhuber for her visit and her solidarity with Xelîl.

The hunger striker has complained of nausea and several other problems in recent days.
