Mothers set to continue vigil for children in Gebze prison

The governor of Kocaeli opened investigation on attacked on mothers organising a vigil in front of Gezbe M Type Prison.

Following the attack carried out by police against the mothers trying to organised a vigil in front of Gezbe M Type Prison where their children are on hunger strike, the governor of Kocaeli opened an investigation on the events.

In one sentence the governor confirmed that “an investigation has been opened on the use of authority and force by security forces.”

The vigil organised by the mothers to draw attention to the hunger strike by their children in prison demanding the end of isolation against Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, will continue today. 

The vigil will be held in front of the prison at 12 pm (Turkish time) and will be joined by deputies of the HDP. 

The families of prisoners have been organising vigils since 9 April in front of Gebze M Type Closed Prison.

Families who have been subjected to police violence since the beginning of the action were again attacked by police on Friday.

The mothers, many quite old, were attacked with pressurised water fired by TOMA and were pushed around and harassed by police.
