Massive demonstration in Berlin on World Rojava Day

Several thousand people took to the streets In Berlin on Saturday on the occasion of the "World Resistance Day" in protest against Turkey’s war of aggression on Rojava and expressed their solidarity with the resistance.

Under the motto "Stop the War - Solidarity with Rojava", thousands of people took to the streets on Saturday on the occasion of "World Resistance Day" in Berlin in solidarity with the resistance against the invasion of Northern and Eastern Syria of the Turkish state.

The crowd gathered at noon at the Alexanderplatz before the massive demonstration started, led by a women's bloc and followed by internationalists, climate activists and many other people who wanted to express their anger and protest against the Turkish war of aggression.

The protest, however, began under police provocations. One of the participants of the demonstration was taken away by the police because of a poster with the words "Thank you PKK, YPG and YPJ for the liberation from the ISIS". However, the police failed with this repressive measure because the speakers of the event showed solidarity and also loudly expressed their thanks to the PKK for the liberation of Shengal.

The protest march was accompanied by numerous flags of Kurdish, antifascist and leftist organizations. A cardboard construction in the form of a tank with a doll depicting the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan referred to German arms exports to the regime in Ankara. The demonstrators did not allow themselves to be provoked or intimidated by the massive contingent of masked and helmeted policemen and sent a powerful signal of solidarity. Both the participants in the march and the speakers showed the full breadth of resistance: from Kurdish associations and Yezidi organisations, to the women's movement, Women Defend Rojava, the Radical Left Berlin to the Interventionist Left, Fridays for Future and the civil society movement Seebrücke, many speakers expressed their solidarity with Rojava and their determination to resist the invasion. Calls were issued to take action against corporations that produce weapons for the Erdoğan regime.

There were particularly loud protests in front of the SPD headquarters, which was massively secured with dogs and special units. Reference was made to the role of Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, who prevented sanctions against Turkey at EU level and had just returned from a friendly visit to Ankara. The protest ended with a large rally at Potsdamer Platz.
