March in Basel against shame wall in Afrin built by Turkey

The shame wall built by the occupying Turkish state in Afrin and the invasion of South Kurdistan were protested with a march in Basel.

Kurdish institutions in Switzerland promoted the march which was joined by hundreds of Kurds and friends.

Activists carrying flags of the PKK, YPG, YPJ, MLKP and MLPD handed out leaflets explaining the reason of the march.

The rally in Barfüsserplatz started with a minute silence in memory of those who lost their lives in the struggle for Kurdish freedom. Ali Simsek, co-chair of the Democratic Kurdish Society Centre (CDK-S), condemned the shame wall the Turkish state is building in Afrin.

“Today the invading Turkish state wants to separate Afrin from the Syrian territory by building a shame wall. This situation is completely contrary to international laws and conventions. The international community should condemn Turkey’s attitude and actions.”

On 8 June, a new march and rally will be organised.
