Leyla Guven’s situation on French television

In a special discussion on prominent French television Franceinfo with female politicians and journalists, participants talked about Leyla Guven’s situation on the 72nd day of her hunger strike.

Umbrella party France Insoumise’s (“Unbowing France”) National Spokesperson and Left Party Co-coordinator Danielle Simonnet asked for support for Leyla Guven in the television program where President Emmanuel Macron’s policies in the aftermath of the Yellow Vests protests.

SPEAKING ABOUT GUVEN WITH HER PHOTOGRAPH

Simonnet held up a photograph of Leyla Guven wearing a t-shirt with Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan’s image on it by the start of the program and stressed that Guven is facing a threat to her life. Simonnet said: “Before we start this discussion, we are all women here. And I would like to talk about anoher woman, HDP MP Leyla Guven. She has been on a hunger strike since November 6.”

SPEAKING ABOUT OVER 10.000 PRISONERS

Danielle Simonnet said Guven’s health has deteriorated significantly: “This may not be the topic of discussion for this day, but this is a matter that should interest the whole world. Kurds have been the best fighters in the war against ISIS. And today, they have over 10.000 people in prison due to the dictatorship in Turkey.”

CALL FOR FRANCE AND THE MEDIA TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE MATTER

Simonnet stressed that the prisons and hunger strikes should be an issue that everybody is involved with and added that MPs from France Insoumise and other leftist, and even center-right political parties have issued declarations in support of the hunger strikes.

Simonnet pointed to the importance of France changing the attitude towards the matter and said the media should also pay attention to the matter. The presenter said they got the message and approved of Simonnet.
