Left Party’s Dalarna Conference declares support for Leyla Guven

“Leyla Guven is a woman attempting to break fascism with her protest. As Left Party members, we stand with Leyla."

Dalarna region chapter of the Left Party held its annual conference, where the delegates gave a message of solidarity with Leyla Guven and other hunger strikers.

The conference was held in the Ludvika province with 38 party representatives from neighboring provinces. Delegates put up a banner with DTK Co-chair Leyla Guven’s photograph supporting the hunger strike and issued a message of solidarity with hunger strikers.

Delegate Valide Cicen spoke to the ANF and said they stand behind the demands of Guven and hunger strikers. Cicen added: “We demand that the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan end immediately.”

Cicen stressed that barring Ocalan from meeting with his lawyers and family is a human rights violation and said: “Leyla Guven’s demand is righteous and legal. Unfortunately, our Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom is quiet. We demand that she end her silence and take a stand against the isolation imposed upon Ocalan.”

CALL TO “SUPPORT PROTESTS”

“Leyla Guven is a woman attempting to break fascism with her protest. As Left Party members, we stand with Leyla,” said Cicen and added that the Left Party will continue until the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan ends.

Left Party delegate Daniel Riazat said the hunger strikes are at a critical phase and called on all human rights defenders to support the protest by Leyla Guven and hunger strikers.

Riazat had gone on a 3-day hunger strike in solidarity with Leyla Guven and hunger strikers last week.
