Lawyers of Abdullah Öcalan apply to Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for a visit

Lawyers of Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan applied to Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and Imralı Prison Directorate to request a meeting with their client.

Asrın Law Office lawyers Raziye Öztürk, Faik Özgür Erol, Rezan Sarıc and Emran Emekçi reiterated their request to meet with their client, whom they had not heard from for more than 15 months.

An application was made to the Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor and the Directorate of Imrali Penitentiary Institution.

Lawyers apply to these institutions twice a week to meet with Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan, but visit requests are systematically left unanswered.

Sometimes months later, a justification is given by the authorities saying that their client has been banned from visiting. This bans generally also apply to other prisoners in the high security prison island.

On 31 May, the Imrali Disciplinary Board Presidency imposed a new 3-month disciplinary sanction on Abdullah Öcalan and other prisoners. This decision, however, was only disclosed on 26 June. Asrın Law Office's lawyers claimed that it is "unlawful" not to notify them of these disciplinary sanctions.
