"Kurds should partake in drafting the constitution in Syria"

UN Special Envoy for Syria Steffan de Mistura stated that Kurds “should partake in the drafting process of the new constitution” in Syria.

United Nations Special Envoy for Syria Steffan de Mistura said Kurds should not be ignored in Syria.

Mistura spoke to the Russian news agency RIA Novosti and stated that the Kurds should not be ignored in Syria and that “Syrian Kurds should partake in the process of drafting a new Syrian constitution.”

For the last couple of weeks, UN officials have been holding meetings with various Syrian “opposition groups” in Lausanne, Switzerland about the new constitution of Syria.

In the draft constitution they proposed to Syria before as a result of the Astana talks, Russia had proposed removing the “Arab” from “Syrian Arab Republic” and adding “cultural autonomy” for Kurdish regions.
