Kurds in May 1 squares in France and Austria

Kurds attended May 1 celebrations in France and Austria en masse.

The May 1 celebrations in France’s Morbihan region were held in the province of Lorient this year. The celebrations were organized by various unions and activists chanted against the new reform package proposed by the French government.


Thousands of workers gathered in Lorient Pont St-Christophe Cote and started to march towards Lorient center.

People from Kurdistan and Turkey participated in the celebrations with their own colors.

Members of Alternative Libertaire Lorient and Kurds marched in the same cortege to draw attention to Turkish state terror and demand freedom for Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

MONTPELLIER

In the Southern French province of Montpellier, the Democratic Kurdish Society Center participated in the French unions’ May 1 celebrations. Neoliberal economic policies were protested in the celebrations and the crowd marched from the Peyro Park to the Comedi Square.

Kurdistanis passed out flyers calling for a boycott of the Turkish state.

LYON

In Lyon, thousands gathered for May 1 and Kurds participated in the celebrations alongside French ally organizations. Kurdistanis passed out flyers throughout the march, chanted “Murderer Erdoğan, collaborator Macron” and saluted the Rojava resistance.



VIENNA

In the Austrian capital, May 1 was celebrated with a mass march. Kurds participated in the celebrations with their own cortege.

In the welcoming platform set up in front of the Vienna City Council building by the Austria Social Democratic Party, former Mayor Christian Kern and current Mayor Michael Häupl stood and saluted the Kurds and allies passing by the platform.

The role of Kurds in the Middle East and their glorious struggle against ISIS gangs were stressed during the celebrations.

The crowd went to the May 1 feast organized by the Democratic United Forces after the march.
