Kurdish activists in Strasbourg reached day 130

The 14 Kurdish activists on hunger strike in Strasbourg have reached day 130 of their fast.

The 14 Kurdish activists on hunger strike in Strasbourg have reached day 130 of their fast. They have joined the hunger strike resistance led by HDP Hakkari deputy Leyla Guven demanding the end of isolation against Öcalan.

The hunger strikers are being visited by many citizens and politicians, artists and young people every day. 

The hunger strike resistance of the 14 members of the Freedom for Öcalan Initiative was launched on 17 December 2018, with the slogan ‘Let’s break isolation, let’s destroy fascism’.

A solidarity hunger strike was also launched by activists of different groups and cities in front of the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT), which is the institution that could do something to break isolation and yet remains silent. 

Although the health condition of the activists is getting worse day after day, they 14 hunger strikers reiterate their determination in continuing the fast until isolation is lifted. 

Visitors come from many cities of Europe

The hunger strikers are not alone, and every day dozens of visitors come to express their solidarity and support. 

The 14 hunger strikers have said in various occasions how important these visits are for them and their morale, yet they are having difficulty in meeting with all the people coming because of their health condition. 

The 14 activists on hunger strike in Strasbourg are: Gülistan İke, Dilek Öcalan, Nurgül Başaran, Mustafa Sarıkaya, Mehmet Nimet Sevim, Yüksel Koç, Deniz Sürgüt, Kardo Bokani, Ramazan İmir, Ekrem Yapıcı, Ayvaz Ece, Mohamad Ghaderi, Agit Ural and Kerem Solhan.
