KNK: The leader of Catalonia must be released immediately

Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) urged Germany to reconsider their decision and release Mr. Puigdemont with immediate effect.

Kurdistan National Congress (KNK) released a statement on the arrest in Germany of the ex. leader of Catalonia Autonomous Government, Mr. Carles Puigdemont upon Spain’s deman.

KNK said Mr. Puigdemont is a political leader and he represented the Catalonian people who recently expressed their desire for self-determination, stressing that the right for Self-determination is a fundamental right and is recognised and protected by the United Nations and other international political platforms.

KNK pointed out that expressing the desire for self-determination is not a criminal act, and said the following;

“Mr. Puigdemont and his political partners had to leave their own country due to the political pressure they faced. The arrest warrant prepared against Mr. Puigdemont is not only unlawful but also immoral.

Similar to many other countries with similar malpractice, Spain chose to take advantage of Interpol.

Mr. Puigdemont holds a residency visa in Belgium and visited many European Union countries without any restriction or an issue so far.

Despite all of these facts, the decision that Germany has made is utterly shocking and deserves strong condemnation.”

KNK urged Germany to reconsider their decision and release Mr. Puigdemont with immediate effect.
