Die Linke Co-chair met with PYD delegation in Berlin

Die Linke Co-chair Katja Kipping met with a Rojava delegation led by PYD Co-chair Ayse Hiso and called on the Merkel government to end Turkey’s occupation of Afrin.

A delegation led by PYD Co-chair Ayse Hiso has been holding meetings in Berlin since Monday. The delegation, which includes PYD Afrin Women’s Organization Co-chair Nosira Mele and Officer for Afrin refugees in Shehba Idris Waqqas, met with Die Linke Co-chair Katja Kipping yesterday.

The delegation informed Kipping about the developments in Rojava Kurdistan and Northern Syria. Kipping posted a video on her social media accounts and called on the Federal Government led by Angela Merkel to end the German state’s military cooperation with the Erdogan regime and the occupation in Afrin.

“THE OCCUPATION IN AFRIN MUST END”

Kipping said the Kurdish fighters ended ISIS gangs and pointed out that despite this important struggle of the Rojavan forces, the Federal Government has ordered their supporters to be treated as criminals. The Die Linke leader said the Turkish state and their allied gangs invaded Afrin with German panzers and an ethnic cleansing effort has continued in the region since then, and continued:

“Before the occupation, Afrin was governed by men and women together. Now, you can only see covered women in the streets of Afrin, and young women are abducted regularly. Before the occupation, diverse ethnic and faith groups lived together in Afrin. Now we learn of children forcibly sent to mosques. For these reasons, I call on the Federal Government: End all military cooperation with the Erdogan regime, and support forces that favor democracy and equality in Syria.”

The PYD delegation will be attending an event to discuss the developments in Rojava and Afrin in particular. The event will be held on Sunday, April 21 at 18:00 in Franz-Mehring Platz 1, 10243 Berlin.
