KCDK-E issued call for Uğur Şakar

Uğur Şakar had set himself on fire in Germany to protest the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan on 20 February.

Democratic Kurdish Society Congress (KCDK-E) Presidential Board said in a written statement: “On 20 February 2019 in Krefeld, Germany, Uğur Şakar set himself on fire, carrying out the first action in the campaign ‘Let's end isolation, destroy fascism, free Kurdistan’. Uğur Şakar fell a martyr today.”

The KCDK-E called on Kurds to gather in front of the hospital where Uğur Şakar lost his life today at 6 pm (European time).

“It will be our main duty - said the statement - to claim this action carried out by a friend who devoted his life to the struggle for the liberation of Kurdistan with great courage and who carried out a great resistance action against the isolation imposed on Leader Apo.”

The statement added: “Our people and our friends celebrated Newroz with great enthusiasm. The hunger strike resistance led by DTK co-chair and HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven, is a reality and has spread all over the world.

Today, Uğur Şakar, our comrade, added his name to that of our comrade Zülküf Gezen who also ended his life to protest isolation. These actions have shown that they will result in victory. There is no other way.

There is only one thing we can do for our comrades who have reached martyrdom: to claim their actions, to carry their coffins on our shoulders with hundreds of thousands, to pick up their resistance which a much stronger resistance. Uğur Şakar's letter is the manifesto of our resistance”

The statement continued: “In Europe, we must fulfill the responsibility of organising the most magnificent of ceremony for our comrade.

On this basis, we call on all Kurds living in Europe and our friends to join the funeral ceremony of our comrade.”
