Journalists’ sentences approved

The prison sentences issued to journalists who participated in the campaign launched to show solidarity with Ozgur Gundem was approved by the appeals court.

The final verdict came out in the lawsuit against journalists Ayse Duzkan, Huseyin Aykol, Mehmet Ali Celebi, Huseyin Bektas and Ragip Duran for participating in the solidarity campaign with the shut down Ozgur Gundem newspaper. The Istanbul Heavy Penal Court No.13 issued a 3 year 9 month sentence to journalist Huseyin Aykol for “terrorist propaganda”, and 1 year 6 month sentences each to Huseyin Bektas, Mehmet Ali Celebi, Ayse Duzkan and Ragip Duran.

“NOTHING AGAINST THE LAW”!

The appeal the lawyers submitted to the Istanbul District Justice Court Penal Department No.3 was finalized, and the court ruled that the sentences the local court issued for the journalists includes “nothing against the law”.
