Iraqi Prime Minister warns countries flying without authorization

Prime Minister Adil Abdulmehdi issued a warning to aircrafts entering Iraqi airspace without authorization from the government.

Iraqi Prime Minister Abdulmehdi issued a written statement after the Security Council meeting to announce the decisions.

The statement said Iraqi fighter jets and foreign jets will not be allowed to fly without authorization by Abdulmehdi.

“The Iraqi Army Command General has issued a decision that from this date forward, fighter jets of the Iraqi army or foreign states, scouting planes or UAVs cannot fly without authorization from Prime Minister Adil Abdulmehdi,” said the statement.

According to Iraqi law, the prime minister is also the head of Iraqi Army Command General.

Abdulmehdi said, “I will command the Iraqi Army from now on, and the decisions will be made with my permission. Any aircrafts to fly over Iraq will do so with my orders,” said the PM according to the same statement.

All councils, government bodies and other parties under the PM in Iraq were called to respect this decision and Abdulmehdi said any flights outside of his permission will be considered “hostile actions”. He added that Iraqi defense forces will retaliate in case of such incidents.
