Iraqi elections: Voting begins

Voters started to cast their votes for the parliamentary elections in Iraq at 07.00.

Voting began at 07.00 for the parliamentary elections in Iraq and Bashur (Southern Kurdistan). 24 million 349 thousand 357 voters will be casting ballots in 8.959 centers and 55.232 voting points throughout Iraq.

There are long queues in front of many voting points in Bashurê Kurdistan, even though voting started early in the morning.

Voting will continue until 18.00 today.

There are 23 alliances, 45 political parties and 19 independent candidates forming 87 lists, which include a total of 7.187 candidates in the running for the Parliament with 329 seats. 2.014 of the candidates are women.

There is a minimum 25% quota for the candidate lists of political parties and alliances.
