Iraqi elections ended amidst accusation of fraud

Traditional parties appears to have lost in South Kurdistan.

Over 24 million voters across Iraq were called to the polls on Saturday.

The participation rate was low. In the Kurdistan Region, on the one hand indifference prevailed while on the other traditional parties were weakened. Nevertheless, as it was expected, the KDP was the first party in Hewler and Duhok, while the PUK was first in Süleymaniye.

Many irregularities and accusation of fraud were registered in these elections. The Goran Movement, Democracy and Justice Coalition, Kurdistan Democratic Party, Yekgirtu Islam, Komela Islam and the New Generation List all exposed election fraud.

The results show that the main parties have suffered a severe loss when compared to previous elections.

In Hewler results were as follows:

KDP 68 thousand 285 votes, PUK 17 thousand 236 votes, New Generation 11 thousand 232, Coalition 9 thousand 789, Gorran 6 thousand 254, Komel 5 thousand 369, Yekgırtu 3 thousand 254 votes.

According to these results, KDP has won 8 seats, PUK 3 seats, New Generation 2 seats, Komel and Gorran won one seat.

2014 results

In the regional elections in 2014, KDP South Kurdistan was the first party, Gorran second and PUK became the third party.

Compared to the elections in 2014, all three parties seem to have lost a very serious vote. In the year 2014, the KDP had a total of 34 seats, PUK 19 seats, Gorran 17 seats.

After the polls were closed accusations of fraud were made from all parties, including the KDP and PUK.

The Movement for Change (Gorran), the Kurdistan Islamic Union Party (Yekgırtu), the Democracy and Justice Coalition and the Kurdistan Islamic Community (Komel) officials gathered at Goran's Zergete Hill to make a joint statement. The four parties demanded the cancellation of the elections because, they said, the electronic system was hacked.
