Investigation against HPD Co-Presidents Demirtaş and Yüksekdağ

Investigations have been launched against HDP Co-Presidents Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ on the grounds of “arming and provoking a part of the people against the other part” and "spreading propaganda for a terrorist organization".

Diyarbakır Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation against HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) Co-President Selahattin Demirtaş on the grounds of “arming and provoking a part of the people against the other part” in line with the Article 214/2 of the Turkish Penal Code.

Urfa Public Prosecutor's Office has also launched an investigation against HDP Co-President Figen Yüksekdağ on the grounds of "spreading propaganda for a terrorist organization" with regards to her remarks “We lean back on YPG, YPJ and PYD”. Yüksekdağ voiced these words in her speech at a rally held in Suruç earlier this month to mark the anniversary of the Rojava Revolution, as she expressed solidarity with the revolution and reacted to the AKP government's preparations for war.

The investigation came after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's remarks in which he targeted Yüksekdağ, saying; “The Parliament must do whatever is necessary. If you lean back on the terrorist organization, you are going to pay for it.”

In the meantime, the summary of proceedings against HDP deputies, including Şırnak MP Faysal Sarıyıldız, which was recently issued for alleged provision of arms to YPG in Rojava, have been sent to the Turkish Parliamentary Speaker's Office.
