The hunger strike launched in front of the UN headquarters in Geneva in protest at the silence of the UN on the invasion of Afrin by the Turkish state and FSA gangs, has ended on its 20th day.

The activists including HDP deputies and PYD members called for immediate action by the international community to stop the Turkish military invasion of northern Syria, end the invasion of Afrin, and supply hundreds of thousands of refugees from Afrin. They stress that the UN is guilty of complicity through its silence.

The action, taken over by the Kurdish Women’s Movement in Europe (TJK-E) 4 days ago, has ended on its 20th day with a press statement with the participation of Swiss left-socialist party representatives and women.

Speaking here, Zilan Serhat on behalf of the TJK-E stated that they have conveyed their demands to officials and held meetings with several political parties and women’s organizations during 20 days of hunger strike. She stressed that they will continue their struggle for Afrin.

Serhat said the following; “We have been promised that the fascist Turkish state will be driven out of Afrin. We will continue our actions unless concrete steps are taken. Our struggle will not end until Afrin and Leader Apo (Öcalan) are freed. Freedom of Leader Apo is freedom of the Kurdish people. We demand an immediate end to the aggravated isolation imposed on him.”

Speaking after, Joel Fiss of Switzerland’s Radical Liberal Party (PLR) stressed that Europe and the world must pay their debt to the Kurds, saying; “Kurds have resisted and achieved victory against barbaric ISIS at the cost of their lives. However, Syria ended up being a theater scene for the states after their own interests. We must fulfill our responsibilities and not leave the Kurds alone in their struggle.”
