Hunger strike in front of the NRW Parliament

An indefinite-alternate hunger strike and an indefinite tent demonstration has been launched in Düsseldorf in front of the NRW State Parliament in solidarity with the prison resistance in Turkey and North Kurdistan.

25 Kurds launched a demonstration in front of the Nordrhein Westfalen State Parliament in Düsseldorf, Germany to support the hunger strike resistance in Turkey and Kurdistan’s prisons.

The indefinite tent demonstration and the indefinite-alternate hunger strike started after a press statement read in front of the NRW State Parliament at 12.00 today. The hunger strike is led by Yêkitiyê Jinên Kurdistan-Elmanya (YJK-E), Düsseldorf, Duisburg, Essen, Bonn, Cologne and Mönchengladbach Democratic Kurdish Society Centers, Kurdistan Families of Martyrs and the Disappeared Institution (KOMAW), TEV-ÇAND, Mesopotamia Faith Institutions (FEDA, CİK and Êzidi faith institution) and Kurdistan Youth Movement. 25 people are on hunger strike, which started with slogans of 'Biji Berxwedana Zindanan' [Long Live Prison Resistance] and 'Biji Serok Apo' [Long Live Leader Apo].

The press statement was read by spokespeople from KOMAW, YJK-E, FEDA and TEV-ÇAND.

Cemil Gültekin spoke in the demonstration in the name of KOMAW and said, “Our friends on hunger strike in the dungeons of the Turkish state are face to face with death at all times. The European states are silent. We are calling on everybody to support the demonstrations,” calling on everybody to speak up against tyranny.

Eylem Kahraman spoke in the name of YJK-E and said: “The hunger strike resistance is at a critical phase. The Turkish state will be responsible for all that happens, and the European states are complicit in this crime with their silence. The demands the activists put forth are reasonable demands. We will continue our demonstration until the activists achieve a definitive result.”

Ayten Şimşir participated in the demonstration in the name of FEDA and said: “The AKP mentality is trying to throw those they couldn’t end through massacres into dungeons to intimidate them, and imposing their tyranny and monist mindset on the outside in prisons as well.”

Cewat Merwani spoke in the name of TEW-ÇAND and, calling on Kurdish artists and everybody else, said: “There is yet another historic and great resistance in the dungeons. The policies of isolation on our Leader and the prisoners, and the policies of oppression against the people are unacceptable. All Kurds need to lend their voice to these resistances.”

The press statement ended with slogans of “Biji Berxwedana Zindanan!”, “Biji Serok Apo!” and “Terrorist Türkei!”
