HDP's Temelli: Human Rights Struggle reached crucial stage

The elections will be an opportunity to avoid dictatorship

HDP has already begun working for the early election scheduled on 24 June.

Speaking to voters in Siirt on Saturday, HDP Co-Chair Sezai Temelli said: "Those who do not want the Kurdish question to be solved are imposing the State of Emergency (OHAL).  From 20 July 2015, when the OHAL was announced, 150 thousand people have been taken into custody and 78 thousand people have been sent to jail. The ministers of this country boast of investing money in 38 new prisons. They actually turned the country into a prison. 500 thousand people live under judicial control. Democracy defenders are suffering the greatest grievance”.

Temelli added: “As HDP, we emphasize that the human rights struggle has reached a very important stage. We are carrying out our political work within this context”.
HDP Temelli underlined that “We are on the road to an open dictatorship. That's exactly the threshold we must break. This is why 24 June is very important”.

Remembering the threshold to overcome in order to enter Parliament, Temelli said that “the fascist AKP-MHP alliance would like to see the HDP closed down, so to eliminate the party fighting for democracy. The main purpose for the AKP is to reach the 401 seats that will give them the absolute majority and allow it to make constitutional amendment whenever it wants. This system the AKP is proposing is not the only violation of the Constitution. Today, all the judiciary, especially the courts in which we are judged, are guilty of a crime against the constitution”.

Ending his speech the HDP executive said that “when it comes to the presidential election, people, names are being discussed. But we need to look at the program of the candidates, at their proposals. We need to look what they stand for”.
