HDP’s Buldan: People’s will to prevail at local elections

The aggravated isolation imposed on Mr. Öcalan is the result of the state's persistence in not democratizing the republic, HDP co-chair Buldan said.

HDP Co-Chair Pervin Buldan discussed the recent political developments at the weekly Assembly group meeting.

Buldan began her speech by paying tribute and expressing her condolences to the family of Free Press worker Kadri Kaya who passed away the day before.

The HDP co-chair then remembered that on Monday it was the 95th anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish republic. “They call it ‘Republic', but for the people there is no democracy, justice, freedom. Despite being a people’s republic it was turned into a regime”.

Referring to the isolation imposed on Abdullah Öcalan, Buldan said: “Today, the aggravated isolation imposed on Mr. Öcalan is the result of the state's persistence in not democratizing the republic. Mr. Öcalan is under isolation because he gives hope to the people. The people who implement this policy are trying to transform the republic into a Republic of isolation”.

Buldan insisted that the “issue is not lifting the isolation imposed on one person. It is the end of the policies responsible for the collapse of the country and the entire society. It is an effort to build a bright future against a future of darkness. We will never give up peace and democracy. - said Buldan - We will not be silent against isolation. We will never let hope of peace fading out. This isolation will certainly be broken by the struggle of our peoples. Those who carry out this inhumane practice will be buried under their own policies”.

Talking about the local election message, said: "The AKP government is trying to remove the values of the Kurdish people from organised life through the trustees they have appointed today. The Kurdish names of parks, gardens and cultural centers have either been translated or the institutions closed. We will hit the AKP government at the next election”.

Buldan then recalled the policy of the AKP attacking funerals and holding bodies as hostages. “They are not giving the bodies of hundreds of people to their families. - said Buldan - These bodies are either buried in the cemeteries or are kept in the morgue. There are 700 bodies in Malatya and Cizre reclaimed by their families. This process has become a complete torture for families who are waiting the DNA results for ages”.
