HDP’s Başaran: Aydın's arrest aims to prevent the youth congress

The Batman deputy said the arrest of Youth Assembly Spokesperson, Tuna Aydın, targets party’s youth Congress preparation.

Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Law and Human Rights Commission Spokeswoman and Batman deputy, Ayse Acar Başaran, issued a written statement on the arrest, on Sunday of Central Executive Committee Member and Youth Assembly Spokesperson, Tuna Aydın.

The statement said: “Aydın has been remanded in custody on the sole statement by a person described as a secret witness. He was arrested without any evidence of an action or crime”.

Başaran pointed out the illegality behind this decision: "We know this mentality. We are living in times when all kinds of illegalities and unlawful decision are implemented. The principle of ‘concrete evidence’, which is the basis of any criminal proceedings, is ignored, and the arrest decisions are taken based on the scenarios written beforehand”.

The judicial authorities, said the Batman deputy, “which are required to act impartially and independently, when it comes to our party, unfortunately change their attitude and act according to the instructions of the power and the Police”.

The aim of this unlawful procedure, said the HDP deputy, “is to prevent our young members from carrying out their political party activities, congresses and elections. In particular - added the HDP deputy - they are trying to prevent the 2nd HDP Youth Congress, which is being prepared by the members of the HDP Youth Assembly, from taking place”.

Pointing out that the judiciary is the "backyard of power”, deputy Başaran said: “The effort of the government to disable the democratic politics via the judiciary will be frustrated, sooner or later”.
