Students in prison

Toğrul stated that the dependence of the universities was increased especially after the 15 July coup attempt. “Up to now, - he said - more than 7,000 people have been sacked. Currently 70,000 students are in prisons”.

HDP Education Policies and Culture-Art co-deputy chair, Sevtap Akdag Karahanlı presented the report.

Karahanlı said: “The people of the government shifted the power relations of the universities in their favour. They put pressure on critic and dissident academics, as well as students”.

* The HDP will not give up defending the right to public education, free education, the right to mother language and qualified education, academic freedoms, job security and the defence of a production of critical and free science. We will work together with all democratic forces to continue this struggle”.
