HDP MP Leyla Guven’s hunger strike on day 15

Imprisoned DTK Co-chair and HDP MP Leyla Guven’s hunger strike has reached day 15. Guven’s health is deteriorating. The hunger strike in Hewler also continues.

Imprisoned DTK Co-chair and HDP MP Leyla Guven has been on a hunger strike for 15 days to protest the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Guven went on an unlimited hunger strike to protest the isolation imposed upon Öcalan, which she calls “a crime against humanity” and as she started her protest, she said: “This isolation is imposed upon not a person but a whole people. And I, as a member of that people, accept to die for this.”

Reports say the protest has started to take its toll on Guven, who is currently 54 years old.

Two-day long hunger strikes were held in Amed, Hakkari, Van, Adana and Urfa on November 17-18 following Guven.

The protests demand an end to the isolation imposed upon Öcalan and call on the Council of Europe (CoE) and the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) to fulfill their duties.
