HDP MP Dündar: Lifting isolation means solving problems

Dündar said that everyone in every neighborhood, street and house in Kurdistan have isolation as priority and stressed the need to listen to the call of the hunger strikers.

The hunger strike resistance demanding the end of isolation against Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan, continues.

HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven, who led the resistance, is on her 135th day of fast, Nasır Yağız in Hewler is on his 122nd  day of fast, 14 Kurdish activists in Strasbourg and Imam Şiş in Wales are on their 96th day of fast, while the prisoners have been on hunger strike for 97 days.

HDP Mardin MP Pero Dündar spoke to ANF about the hunger strike resistance and isolation.

Dündar said that everyone in every neighborhood, street and house in Kurdistan have isolation as priority and stressed the need to listen to the call of the hunger strikers.

"Everybody knows that the hunger strike is legitimate and lawful. The government and the whole world know that Mr. Öcalan is not an ordinary person. That is why Öcalan's role and mission is different. The isolation imposed on him is to prevent the opening of the path to dialogue and peace. Isolation is affecting the entire Middle East. The hunger strikers’ demand is the demand of millions of Kurds.”

Critical stage reached in prisons

Dündar underlined that “the action launched by Leyla Guven has spread to prisons and all over the world. Prisoners have played their historic role once again. In such critical processes prisoners always come into play. The hunger strike resistance in 2012 succeeded.  The process in 2012 was similar to the current process, and there was only one demand, beginning negotiations with Mr. Öcalan.”

Dündar continued: “Mr. Öcalan took his role in the negotiation process and started the spring of the peoples. Mr. Öcalan persisted in this process for 3 years. This process had opened the way for Turkey. After the Dolmabahçe Protocol, on 5 April 2015, isolation against Öcalan was reactivated. This has led Turkey to disaster. The AKP understood that if the war ended, they would not be able to maintain their power and hence isolation was reinstated [and talks unilaterally ended].”

Erdoğan is deepening the war

Ending isolation, insisted Dündar, would help solving many of the problems. "The hunger strike action will open the way to some things. Not that we hoped the power would take steps but it must comply with laws. Everybody knows the role of Öcalan. Everyone knows that Turkey needs a solution. Erdoğan is deepening the war.”

Whatever the price, said Dündar “this action will surely reach its goal. Leyla Güven and the prisoners will win. First of all, isolation prevents the lives of peoples. If isolation disappears, a new process will begin and all existing problems will be solved. Our struggle against isolation will continue everywhere and we will counter this isolation policy until we reach our goal."
