HDP members detained in Suruç following AKP supporters’ attack

Many HDP members including MP candidate İsmail Kaplan were taken into custody in the wake of the armed attack by AKP candidate’s relatives on shopkeepers in Suruç.

Turkish police started a detention operation in Urfa’s Suruç district following the armed attack by relatives of AKP MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız on shopkeepers the day before.

After staging a crackdown on the people during the funeral on Friday of brothers Celal Şenyaşar (35) and Adil Şenyaşar (30), who lost their lives on Thursday as the result of the attack carried out by the AKP candidate's armed relatives, police carried out house raids yesterday evening.

Deputy co-mayor of Suruç, Nazlı Binici, and many other people had already been detained before the house raids, during which 5 more people have been taken into custody. The detainees include HDP Urfa MP candidate İsmail Kaplan, HDP district branch co-chair Rojda Binici and Suruç Municipal Council Member Fethi Yavuzel.
