HDP members detained in Hasankeyf tortured in police bus

HDP members detained in Hasankeyf were tortured in the police bus. The police battered detainees and shot tear gas into the vehicle.

HDP Batman Youth Assembly members were attacked by the police as they held a press statement in Hasankeyf against the proposed dam to be built which will flood the ancient city completely. 33 people were detained and the detainees were tortured in the police bus.

The police shot tear gas into the vehicle and battered the detainees. The youth assembly members chanted slogans and protested the police as they suffered bruises due to the plastic bullets fired at them and the torture they endured.

The detainees were taken to the Hasankeyf Public Hospital where they were told they would receive their medical checkup inside the bus. Upon protests, the 33 detainees were told they could receive their checkup in the hospital.

IDENTITIES OF DETAINEES

The names of some of the 33 detainees are journalist Sonya Bayik, HDP province co-chairs Gulcemal Erdinc and Ikram Irgi, HDP members Omer Amac, Erol Dasdelen, Siyar Aydin, Husamettin Tanrikulu, Umit Akbiyik, Osman Demir, Merve Karacay and Eyyup Demir.
