HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven reached day 166 of hunger strike

The Kurdish politician launched the hunger strike resistance on 7 November 2018 demanding an end to the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan .

Democratic Society Congress (DTK) co-chair and HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven has reached day 166 of her indefinite hunger strike.

The Kurdish politician launched the hunger strike resistance on 7 November 2018 demanding an end to the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan .

After Güven started her protest, the government tried to break the resistance by allowing Mehmet Öcalan to meet with his brother, Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan in the Imrali Prison on 12 January.

However the attempt to break the resistance was spoiled by the same Leyla Güven who said that the visit did not mean the end of the isolation.

The HDP Hakkari MP therefore, confirmed she would continue her hunger strike until Öcalan is allowed to have regular visits with his family and lawyers.

Güven was released from prison in a court ruling on her case, and has continued her hunger strike in her home in the Bagcilar neighborhood of Diyarbakir’s Baglar district since 25 January.

The hunger strike resistance she launched was joined by thousands in and oustide of prisons, as well as in many cities around the world.
