HDP files Selahattin Demirtaş’s candidacy

HPD has filed the paperwork for Selahattin Demirtaş’s presidential candidacy with the High Council of Elections (YSK).

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Co-chair Pervin Buldan and MPs appealed to the High Council of Elections (YSK) for Selahattin Demirtaş’s presidential candidacy.

Buldan spoke after the appeal and said:
“We have submitted the paperwork for Mr. Selahattin Demirtaş’s presidential candidacy to the YSK. We submitted this candidacy as the appeal of everybody who wants democracy, equality and freedom in Turkey, for those who have hopes for peace and the future, for young people and women, for people of diverse faiths and denominations,.

“DEMİRTAŞ MUST BE FREE”

Mr. Demirtaş has been held hostage in the Edirne Prison for one and a half years. There is no conviction, thus after his presidential candidacy is certain, Demirtaş should immediately be released. Like the other candidates will have equal and free circumstances to campaign, Demirtaş should complete this race under equal circumstances. Demirtaş is unjustly and unlawfully imprisoned, and must be freed as soon as possible.

“THE ONLY CANDIDATE PROMISING HOPE AND PEACE”

We would like to state that Demirtaş’s candidacy is very important for Turkey’s future. Mr. Demirtaş is the only candidate that promises hope for Turkey’s future and peace for the peoples. We want votes from 50 million voters.”

“THE FUTURE LIES WITH HDP”

When asked, “What does the HDP think about the alliance by 4 parties?” Buldan said:

“There was an alliance of the nation. Now there are statements that CHP-SP-IYI Party and DP are forming a national alliance. These alliances excluding the HDP is a great shame for Turkey’s democracy. Both alliances are right-wing alliances. I would like to make the following call for voters: Other parties have united in the right, Turkey’s future lies with leftist opposition HDP.

Hard as they may try to keep HDP below the treshhold, we will keep working with our faith that we will destroy the treshhold. Alliances are certainly important, but the HDP is outside of them. We have faith in women, the youth, and our peoples. Those who try to leave the HDP below the treshhold will be ashamed on the night of June 24.”
