HDP co-chair Sezai Temelli visited Leyla Güven

HDP co-chair Sezai Temelli visited Leyla Güven who has reached day 105 of hunger strike.

DTK co-chair and HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven has been on hunger strike for 105 days demanding the end of isolation against Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

HDP co-chair Temelli visited the Hakkari MP at her house in the Bağlar district in Amed. He was accompanied by deputies Semra Güzel, Remziye Tosun and Saliha Aydeniz and HDP Amed Provincial co-chair Mehmet Şerif Çamcı and municipal co-mayors.

Temelli briefed the press members after the short visit.

“Leyla is carrying out a determined struggle to end isolation. She sent her love and greetings to the peoples of Turkey.

She reiterated that she is struggling for the peoples of Turkey, peace and democracy.”

Temelli reminded that over 300 prisoners are on hunger strike in Turkish and Kurdish prisons, including prominent politicians Sebahat Tunnel and Selma Irmak.

Isolation must end now

Temelli said: “We must be sensitive and end isolation as soon as possible. The Minister of Justice himself must comply with this country’s laws. He must respect the law and end isolation in Imrali immediately. Meetings with family and lawyers in Imrali should be allowed.”

Leyla Güven’s health condition has reached critical stage

Leyla Güven's health condition has reached critical stage, said Temelli adding: “Everyone should do their part. Earlier doctor Şebnem Korur Fincancı has visited Leyla. The information I received is that her health situation has reached a serious situation. Steps should be taken as soon as possible."

Call to public opinion

Criticizing the silence of the public, Temelli continued: “The insensitivity of the public and indifference continues. Isolation is not an issue to be addressed on its own, as it is part of the other issues in Turkey. Isolation and the Kurdish issue are the core problems in Turkey and affect all other issues. I call on the public who has witnessed how different this country can be run, who has seen what democratic politics can do. Join our struggle to bring peace and democracy to this country.”

Warning to the AKP

Temelli warned the AKP government: “Comply with the law, do what is required by law. Turkey needs social peace and democracy.”
