HDP co-chair condemned new political arrests

"Our comrades on hunger strike all over Turkey are calling to the world: Let's end this isolation, open the way to peace and democracy in Turkey. We make the same call.”

HDP co-chair Sezai Temelli evaluated the current developments at the party's weekly group meeting.

Temelli opened his remarks by saying that “today, here, we have friends from the Black Sea. We have Laz, Georgians, Circassians. We welcome them to resistance, struggle and solidarity. We believe - he said - that shoulder to shoulder we can put an end to violence and persecution in Turkey.”

Mentioning the youth congress that has taken place in Diyarbakir at the weekend, Temelli saluted the resistance of the youth in Amed and Turkey.

Temelli pointed out the latest political genocide operations, “In the 24th legislature, Kars deputy Mülkiye Birtane, MYK member Mahfuz Guleryiz were taken into custody together with many of our friends and trade unionists. Again this morning 23 friends have been detained. But every day they go to sleep resisting and they wake up resisting. All these arrests are illegal. All they know is to manage the country with the mentality and behaviour of the mercenary groups. We will not allow it.”

The European Court of Human Rights' verdict telling Turkey that Selahattin Demirtaş 'should be released' have given a lesson to this country, said Temelli who urged the release “of Demirtaş and all our comrades.”

Temelli also saluted HDP Hakkari MP Leyla Güven who is on hunger strike in prison.

"Today, our dear Leyla Güven - said Temelli - has entered her 20th day of hunger strike. Twenty full days, because there is isolation in this country. She calls for an end of the isolation regime imposed on Ocalan which is an isolation imposed on the whole country. Our comrades on hunger strike all over Turkey are calling to the world: Let's end this isolation, open the way to peace and democracy in Turkey. We make the same call.”
