HDP Şırnak MP stripped of parliamentary seat

HDP Şırnak MP Ferhat Encu has been stripped of his status as a member of Turkish parliament.

Resolution for the removal of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Şırnak MP Ferhat Encu’s membership in the parliament was read out at the General Assembly on Tuesday after the court of appeals upheld a prison sentence for the HDP deputy who is jailed in Kandıra F Type Prison.

Encu was then stripped of his status as a member of Turkish parliament.

HDP Şırnak MP Ferhat Encu had been jailed on 4 November 2016 and released after 3,5 months in prison. Only two days after his release, he was imprisoned again on February 17.

The number of HDP deputies who have been stripped of their parliamentary duties has thus risen to 7.
