Group from Bordeaux takes over the Vigil for Öcalan in Strasbourg

"The CPT is silent, the ECHR is deaf. This is unacceptable. Why is the whole world silent when it comes to Kurdish and Kurdistan?”

This week, Zahide Azak, Şerefnaz Buksur and Berkay Değer from Bordeaux, have taken over the Öcalan Freedom Vigil in front of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.

Each week for 333 weeks the Vigil has been taken on by a different group.

In a statement on behalf of the group from the city of Bordeaux, France, it was reminded that there is no news about the situation and health condition of Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Ocalan.

The statement also said that the Council of Europe and the Committee on the Prevention of Torture (CPT) have failed to take any action despite the serious violation of human rights.

Berkay Değer, who spoke on behalf of the Group, said: "The reason we are here today is that we are taking our turn in this honorable and just action which has been carried out for 6,5 years demanding freedom for Önder Apo. Leader Apo has been in isolaton for 20 years".

The CPT and the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) were condemned by activists who said: "The CPT is silent, the ECHR is deaf. This is unacceptable. Why is the whole world silent when it comes to Kurdish and Kurdistan? The CPT and the ECHR should listen to our million voices and act".

The activists also called on people to join the big action staged for today in front of the Council of Europe.
