Germany warns: Referendum a danger to military collaboration

Germany announced once more that they are openly opposed to the referendum to be held in Southern Kurdistan. Officials from Chancellor Merkel’s CDU stated that the referendum is a danger to the military collaboration with the Peshmerga.

Governing parties in Germany the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and Christian Social Union (CSU) have openly stated their disapproval of the referendum to be held in Southern Kurdistan under the lead of the KDP.

In the wake of the general elections to be held in Germany tomorrow, officials from the CDU and the CSU demanded a freeze to the military collaboration with the Peshmerga that has been in place for the last 3 years as part of the fight against ISIS due to the referendum.

In a statement given to the Stuttgarter Zeitung, Member of the Defense Commission in the Federal Parliament from the CDU Roderich Kiesewetter clearly issued this warning.

Kiesewetter said, “The independence attempts of the Northern Iraq Kurdish administration is not only endangering the security of the region, but also bringing the collaboration with the Germany army into question.”

The German politician argued that a Kurdish state doesn’t have the right to exist in the region and claimed: “An independent Kurdistan means a fracturing of Iraq, and that would trigger a new war in the region.”

After ISIS gangs attacked Shengal and Southern Kurdistan in August 2014, Germany had taken on the training of the Peshmerga as well as providing weapons.
