Germany: Our definition of terror is different from Turkey’s

German Interior Minister said their cooperation with Turkey in matters of security has worsened, adding: “Our definition of terror is different from Turkey’s, as a general idea, a Kurdish opposition member may not be a terrorist for us."

Recent tensions and crises between the Merkel government and the Erdoğan regime have affected the security cooperation between the two countries. Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière spoke to the German news agency DPA and said the cooperation in matters of security has never been worse.

The CDU politician said they want to know when an ISIS member jihadist heads off to Germany over Turkey, and continued: “But Turkey is imposing a different point of view on us in this matter.”

“TURKEY’S DEFINITION OF TERROR IS DIFFERENT”

Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière said Turkey and Germany have different definitions of terrorism and added:

“Our definition of terror is different from Turkey’s, as a general idea, a Kurdish opposition member may not be a terrorist for us. We want to cooperate with Turkey in matters we define as terrorist, but the cooperation in this area has gotten worse than it has ever been before.”
