Germany bans anti-war protests of the Kurds

"The Federal Government seems to be bothered by the fact that we are making public attention to the German-Turkish arms brotherhood. That's why we are intended to be silenced, "said NAV-DEM.

The Democratic Kurdish Society Centre in Germany (NAV-DEM) had called for demonstration in Cologne against the Turkish state’s invasion attacks against the Afrin Canton in northern Syria. The Cologne police banned the demonstration on the grounds that NAV-DEM is a sub-organization of the PKK.

In a press release on 14 February, NAV-DEM said the following;

"Protests and demonstrations have been taking place throughout Germany since the beginning of the invasion operation on Afrin. These protests not only condemn the war of the Turkish army and its jihadist allies against the people of Afrin, but also Germany's support for Turkey. The use of German tanks in the attack on Afrin is well known. The Federal Government seems to be bothered by the fact that we are making public attention to the German-Turkish arms brotherhood. That's why we are intended to be silenced.

The fact that the ban comes shortly before Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim’s meeting with Chancellor Angela Merkel is no coincidence. ‘Gifts’ of this kind from the Federal Government to Ankara have become a tradition.

We will not bow to this undemocratic policy of repression and take legal action against it".
