French union Solidaires: We support progressive Kurds

Solidaires protested the seizure of HDP municipalities and expressed solidarity with the “progressive Kurdish forces fighting in Kurdistan”.

French union Solidaires released a statement condemning the AKP/MHP government’s seizure on August 19 of metropolitan municipalities of Amed (Diyarbakır), Mardin and Van which were won by the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in the local elections of March 31.

Recalling the usurpation of around 100 HDP municipalities after the coup attempt of 2016, Solidaires said; “The Turkish AKP-MHP government under the rule of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is once again trampling on democracy against the election results not in their favor.”

The statement noted that over 400 people have been arrested in tandem with the seizure of HDP municipalities and added; “The discourses of State officials mainly target the co-presidency system that is among the fundamental bases of HDP’s political program.”

Solidaires expressed solidarity with “all the progressive Kurdish and Turkish forces who are giving a struggle for democracy in Turkey and North Kurdistan”.

Solidaires also voiced support for “all the unionized municipal employees affiliated to Tüm Bel-Sen, member of KESK, which stands at the forefront against the repression experienced by Kurdish municipalities.

The Union also condemned the French state for "refusing to end its relations with the AKP, which obviously blatantly disregards the most basic democratic rights, and even covering its fascist excesses".
