French Communist Party visited hunger strikers in Strasbourg

Hunger strikers in Strasbourg are receiving the visit of politicians and association members.

15 activists are on hunger strike in Strasbourg city of France for 20 days to demand the end of the isolation regime imposed on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

They are also fasting in solidarity with HDP Hakkari MP, Leyla Guven who is jailed in Amed prison and on the 59th day of her hunger strike against the isolation of Öcalan. The activists were visited by the 68th District Secretariat of the French Communist Party (PCF).

Speaking during the visit, KCDK-E (Congress of the Kurdish Democratic Society of Europe) Co-Chair Yüksel Koç said that the aim of the action is to ensure the removal of the aggravated isolation on Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan and said there was a threat of genocide against the Kurds.

Dilek Öcalan, former HDP deputy for Urfa, who is among the hunger strikers, reminded that isolation on the Kurdish leader had begun in 2011. Dilek Öcalan added that the applications to visit the Kurdish leader by families and lawyers were continuously rejected. She insisted that isolation is a crime against humanity and called on the CPT and the European institutions to fulfil their duties.

Mehmet Nimet Sevim, another of the hunger strikers, said that France is one of the parties responsible of Kurdistan being divided into four parts.

Speaking on behalf of the French Communist Party (PCF), Christian Grosse underlined that the reason for their presence was not only to support hunger strike activists, but also to show the support of French people.

Grosse recalled the DAESH (ISIS) attack in Strasbourg last December. “Your struggle is our struggle, - Grosse said - We need to win French public opinion to achieve success in this struggle.”

Grosse added: “Being in solidarity with the oppressed peoples is one of the aims of the Communist Party. If we take that out, the Communist Party has no meaning.”

Stating that the liberation of the Kurdish people and the freedom of Öcalan mean the common life and peace for the peoples of the Middle East, Christian Grosse said that the action would be taken to the parliament agenda.
