French Communist Party calls on Europe to act

“We vow to defend political prisoners in Turkey, and reiterate our total solidarity with them and all the people who are demanding peace and democracy in Turkey," said the Communist Party of France.

The Communist Party of France (PCF) reminded of the hunger strike carried out in Europe and Turkey in a written statement issued on Monday.

The hunger strike, recalled the statement, is carried out to demand the end of the isolation regime imposed on Abdullah Öcalan.

The statement added: “Leyla Güven, an HDP deputy detained in Diyarbakır, is on the threshold of death. We call on France and the governments of the European Union countries to ask Turkey about the health situation of both Leyla Güven and Abdullah Öcalan. Human rights violations became the rule in Turkey under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.”

The statement ended with the following words: “We vow to defend political prisoners in Turkey, and reiterate our total solidarity with them and all the people who are demanding peace and democracy in Turkey. The PCF also reiterates its solidarity with the hunger strikers in Strasbourg and with Leyla Güven, who should be released immediately.”
