Freedom for Öcalan Vigil reaches week 388

The Freedom for Öcalan Vigil reached week 388. The action is being carried out in Strasbourg, and this week has been taken over by three Kurdish activists from Switzerland and France.

Launched on 25 June 2012 in front of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, the Freedom for Öcalan Vigil will continue until Öcalan is liberated.

The action has been going on for almost 8 years, and continues with new groups of activists taking it over every week.

Saadet Kuran, from Bern and Erhan Aktay and Zeydin Argın, from Strasbourg, took over the Vigil which was carried out last week by a group from Heilbronn, Germany.

The group reminded in this week's statement that the Vigil has started 7 years ago and continues every week despite the cold and rainy weather of the winter months.

"We'll never step back - said the activists - because as the PKK is the historical resistance, we will resist as those coming from that tradition. We will be here until our leadership is freed and we will resist."

The statement also recalled that this year is the 41st anniversary of the foundation of the PKK and said: "Our promise to both the PKK and our people resisting is that we will continue our action until our leader is freed."
