Europol developing cooperation with Erdogan regime

European police organization Europol has stepped up to develop cooperation with Erdogan regime, German government said.

If Turkey and EU officials reach an agreement, Ankara will have the access to the files of persons who are being watched by the police.

European Union countries led by Germany have been criticising Ankara’s efforts to track members of Turkish opposition and Kurdish activists in Europe. Instead of taking necessary measures to prevent Turkish activities, European Union is looking to develop cooperation with Turkish police.

In a response to parliamentary question by the Left Party, German government said that the European Commission has launched a mission to incorporate Turkey into Europol organization.

According to the government, EU continues negotiations with Turkey to share its database and setup an office in Ankara. If a deal is reached Turkey will have access to the information about persons who are being watched by European Police organizations.

Left Party MP Andrej Hunko thinks that such a move will mean approval of Turkish police actions against the opposition in Turkey.

“The cooperation of Europol will legitimatize Turkish police’s practices. Today the crimes of Turkey in Afrin are obvious. Cooperation with Turkey is out of question under these circumstances” Hunko said.

Hunko also criticized Turkish police’s participation in the special training sessions of EU’s police academy, CEPOL and said “Already now Turkey has a communication office in Europol. The Europol administration should never participate in the seminars about struggle against terrorism. Such a move will put the lives of thousands of people who are being tracked by Turkey in danger”.
