Europe’s silence to be protested in Paris with silent protest

Democratic Kurdish Council France (CDK-F) called for a silent demonstration on April 13 to protest the “deadly silence” in Europe against hunger strikes.

CDK-F issued a statement titled “I protest silence with silence” and said it has been 5 months since Leyla Guven started her hunger strike against the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan.

CDK-F pointed to the absolute isolation imposed upon Ocalan and added that over 7.000 political prisoners are also on indefinite nonalternating hunger strikes as of March 1.

CDK-F also mentioned the hunger strikes in other places and said, “European governments and institutions are silent and inactive against the rising fascism in Turkey, and this has caused deaths of several people in recent weeks,” citing the sacrifice actions in prisons.

CDK-F said the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT), European institutions and the French government are in a reckless silence and added: “We are calling on Europe, and the French government in particular, to break the deadly silence to prevent new tragedies.”

CDK-F also called on the Council of Europe and the CPT to fulfill their duties and said the Erdogan regime is emboldened by the silence of European institutions.

CDK-F called for “a silent demonstration against Europe’s silence” in the Trocadero Square on April 13 at 14:00.
